FAQs
::Tab 2 Content::
Q: You say the Preferred Devices & Electronics Protection is offered in partnership with CPS. Who is CPS?
A: CPS stands for Consumer Priority Service, and they’re a leader in extended electronics warranties. When you need to make a claim under your Preferred Devices & Electronics Protection, you’ll be taken care of by CPS.
Q: Does the plan cover mobile phones?
A: Yes — both halves of the bundle include mobile phone coverage, and the coverages complement each other. Preferred Devices & Electronics Protection covers your mobile phone for many potential issues but does not include coverage for surge damage, and Surge Protection $4,000 covers surge damage for a mobile phone that was plugged in with the official charger that came with the phone.
Q: Does the coverage have service charges?
A: For Preferred Devices & Electronics Protection, there is a $49 service fee for non-smartphone-related claims. For smartphones $0-$749.99, you’ll be charged an $89 service fee at the time of claim. For smartphones over $750, you’ll be charged a $125 service fee at the time of claim. For Surge Protection $4,000, there is no service fee, but you will need to provide proof of a professional opinion that your covered item did suffer damage from a power surge. You can find details in the terms and conditions.
Q: What if my item can't be repaired?
A: For covered items damaged by a power surge, you can request reimbursement for a replacement item. If the product cannot be repaired and the damage is not the result of a power surge, CPS will send a check for the current replacement value of the customer’s product (less shipping/tax). The reimbursement will be based on a comparable-feature model of like kind and quality. (CPS will determine, according to the terms and conditions of these plans for electronics, whether a covered item will be repaired or replaced. Once a product replacement is provided, the original product is no longer covered.)
Q: What kind of products does this bundle cover?
A: Smartphones, headphones and Bluetooth speakers, home entertainment products, home theater systems, soundbars and subwoofers, gaming systems, DVD players, universal remotes, home office products, laptops, desktops, tablets, routers, printers, external hard drives, wearable technology, including Apple Watch, Fitbits, etc., digital and point & shoot cameras, baby monitors. The Surge Protection $4,000 portion of the bundle covers electrical products valued at $100 or more.
Q: What is included within the Preferred Devices & Electronics coverage?
A: Manufacturer defects, protection for internal hardware failure, protection for accidental damage (includes damage from impact or damage from liquid), free shipping label to service center. (The plan does not cover damage due to electrical surge, accidental damage to televisions, or damage to home appliances and exercise equipment.)
Q: How long do I need to wait before I can make a claim?
A: Pre-existing conditions and incidents that occur within the first 30 days of warranty purchase are not covered. Once your coverage is active, it’s important to know that a request for a claim form for Surge Protection $4,000 needs to be made no later than 30 days from an electrical surge incident, and the claim form must be completed in full and returned with a copy of the service provider invoice within 30 days of receiving the claim form.
Q: Does this prevent surge damage from lightning strikes?
A: Surge Protection $4,000 doesn’t prevent lightning surges, but it does provide reimbursement protection for repair and/or replacement of your covered electronics and electric appliances at your home should a lightning surge damage them. It also covers surges that occur because of other events, such as appliance cycling and transformer problems.
Q: How do I know if I've had damage from a surge?
A: When you suspect your covered item suffered surge damage, you must hire your own service provider who is a certified technician to determine if damage to your electronics was caused by a surge event.
Q: Are relatives’ or friends’ appliances (phones, game consoles, laptops, etc.) covered by this protection bundle?
A: No. All damaged items must belong to you. The items also cannot be any rented items.
